President – Jeremy van Frank
Jeremy currently works for VT Group where he is the West Coast Director and Program Manager for the Global Installation Contract overseeing the installation of communication systems on surface ships, submarines, and Navy shore sites around the world. He is also a Captain in the Navy Reserves having served 9 years active duty on submarines, one year in Afghanistan performing provincial reconstruction, and is currently the Communications Officer for the Submarine Force Reserve Component. Jeremy has an MS in Management of Information Systems and BSE in Aerospace Engineering from the University of Michigan. Jeremy lives in North Park with his wife, Alex van Frank, and their two children – a current student and a recent graduate.
Vice President and Founder – Tamar Caspi
Tamar attended an informational session about bringing a Hebrew language Charter school to San Diego shortly after becoming a mother. Impassioned about the concept, Tamar saw to it that the idea became a reality. Utilizing her career in writing, Tamar and a small team wrote the original charter petition and submitted it to the San Diego Unified School District Board where it was unanimously approved just one month later.
Tamar is an author and has been a journalist since 2003 working as a writer and reporter in broadcast news, radio and print. In addition, Tamar is passionate about giving back and has served in the non-profit world on the boards and committees of many local organizations where she initiated new programming and was involved in fundraising and planning. She also has experience in marketing, promotions and internet marketing.
Tamar is a native San Diegan and lives with her family in Del Cerro. She is also a proud parent of two Kavod Explorers!
Treasurer – Avi Frohlichman
Avi started his financial planning career in 1994. From 1994 to 2001, Avi held various positions around the state of California with national banks including Wells Fargo Private Client Services and California Bank & Trust’s Wealth Management group. Avi earned a Bachelor of Science degree from the University of California in Davis. Avi holds a life and disability insurance license (CA license #0D83176) and a series 7, 63, 66 securities licenses. He is an investment advisor representative withSagemark Consulting, Inc., a Registered Investment Advisor.
Avi served on the Executive Committee and on the Regional Board of the Anti-Defamation League of San Diego. He also currently serves on the Board of Directors of Jewish Family Service of San Diego, & Hebrew Free Loan Association Committee. Avi lives in Downtown San Diego and is a proud Kavod parent.
Secretary and Founder – Harriet Herman
Harriet is an educator with more than 30 years experience in grades pre-school through 8th grade, including 6 years in administration as the school Principal of an Independent Kindergarten-8th grade school. She presently serves on the Board of Directors of a parent advocacy non-profit organization for parents of special needs children.
Harriet has direct experience with CAIS and WASC re-accreditation as the team leader in charge of the writing of the document, as well as the contact person during the weeklong visit. Her education experience includes curriculum development, assessments, materials selection, professional and parent presentations. Harriet has an MS in Curriculum Development and a BS in Elementary and Early Childhood Education.
Member — John Milikowsky
John Milikowsky represents U.S. and foreign businesses and individuals in sophisticated business transactions involving U.S. tax matters with his firm CalTaxAdviser.com. John is recognized in the legal and business community for his experience and knowledge in the area of taxation and financial analysis. Previously, John was a litigation attorney representing government entities and businesses in civil litigation matters.
John is admitted to practice in California, the U.S. District Court Southern District of California, and the U.S. Tax Court. John is also being admitted to the Israeli Bar as a foreign attorney authorized to practice US law in Israel. He and his family live in Carmel Valley.
Member — Michelle Anderson
Michelle Anderson is the Orange County and San Diego Regional Manager for the California Charter School Association (CCSA). As part of the Regional Advocacy team, Michelle leads policy and advocacy efforts to support member schools’ interests across Orange and San Diego Counties in the areas of charter school authorization, growth, renewals, funding equity and facilities advocacy. Michelle works closely with charter operators and local elected officials to maximize the positive impact of charter schools in the region.
Michelle is passionate believer that a free quality education can be available for every student. She lives in San Diego with her family.
Member — Brian Elswick
Brian Elswick is the Sales Development Manager for Sony’s KOOV educator kit, an engaging STEAM coding and robotics solution complete with 3D modeling and curriculum that follows NGSS standards and can support project based learning. He has been asked to present at national conferences on numerous occasions due to his successes in the diverse fields and projects he has led. Brian is often called upon by top management to lead cutting edge initiatives that require diverse interpersonal communication skills, technical expertise and business acumen. Throughout his career, he has earned leading industry certifications, security clearances, and multiple business degrees including an MBA with a focus on operations management and project management. Most recently, Brian completed Villanova’s Master certificate for Lean Six Sigma.
Brian has extensive personal interests including flying with his pilot’s license, traveling and various engagements in sports and utilizing his Spanish speaking abilities.
Parent Committee Liaison to the Board – Kevin Mann
Kevin Mann is a corporate transactional attorney with specialties in securities and M&A with his firm, JKM Legal. His experience includes mergers and acquisitions, public and private debt and equity offerings (including initial public offerings), private investment fund formation, joint ventures, SEC compliance, and general counseling of established and emerging growth companies concerning entity formation, governance and raising capital.
Kevin has represented clients in a number of industries, including biotech (medical devices & diagnostics), healthcare services, financial services, energy, manufacturing, telecommunications, retail sales, real estate and private equity.
Kevin was elected by Kavod parents to represent them on the Kavod Board. Both of Kevin’s children are Kavod Explorers.
